Sporty types can explore Ghent’s most beautiful spots in spring during the Sofico Gent Marathon.

Sofico Gent Marathon is the main spring marathon in Belgium. The routes (10 km, 1/2 marathon, marathon) take you along the city’s sights and hidden gems. You will start (and finish) at the Topsporthal. The route runs through Ghent’s city centre and is very comfortable for participants.

How to reach Ghent

The course of the marathon will be inaccessible during the passage of the runners. (start 10 km at 9:30 a.m., start half marathon and marathon at 10:00 a.m.)  

By public transport 

The majority of bus and tram lines will be inconvenienced by the route, which may cause delays or cancellations. Consult the route maps of De Lijn for more information.  

By car 

No parking is allowed on the entire course of the marathon, which will also be inaccessible during the passage of the runners. We recommend that you park your car at a P+R on the city outskirts and use public transport to reach the city centre.  Do you prefer to park your car in an underground car park in the city centre? Please bear in mind that access to some car parks will not be possible or will be restricted:  

Car parks that will not be accessible: 

  • Car park Savaanstraat 
    Not accessible between 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. 
    Exit always possible via Kouter – Brabantdam. 
  • Car park Vrijdagmarkt 
    Not accessible between 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon.  
    Exit not possible between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Exit possible via Baudelostraat from 11:00 a.m.  

Car parks with limited accessibility:  

  • Car park Sint-Michiels 
    Entry and exit always possible via Hoogstraat. 
    Exit via Rozemarijnbrug impossible between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. 
  • Car park Ramen 
    Entry and exit always possible via Hoogstraat. 
    Exit via Rozemarijnbrug impossible between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. 
  • Car park Kouter 
    Entry and exit always possible via Brabantdam. 
    Entry via Kortrijksepoortstraat impossible between 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. 
  • Center Parking 
    Entry and exit always possible via Vlaanderenstraat.

  • Car park Reep 
    Entry always possible via Vlaanderenstraat. 
    Entry via Keizer Karelstraat impossible between 10 a.m. and 12 noon. 
    Exit always possible via Keizer Karelstraat. 
  • Car park Gent Sint-Pietersplein 
    Entry always possible via Kunstlaan – Overpoortstraat – Voetweg – Kantienberg. 
    Exit always possible via Kramersplein – Voetweg – Benedictijnenstraat. 
  • Car park Dok Noord 
    Entry and exit always possible via Sassevaartstraat. 
    Entry and exit via R40 Dok Noord impossible between 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. 

Note: P+R Watersportbaan cannot be used from Friday 22 March to Monday 25 March.  

By bike 

Some bicycle axes and streets will be incorporated into the course of the marathon, so watch the signs. Cycling will not permitted on the course during the passage of the runners.
