In the almost monochromatic paintings, the colours brown and pink predominate. They show a world in which no human seems to be present. Yet they give a sense of what is not visible. Monique Gies made this works hoping to keep herself out of the psychiatric hospital. Everything was related to the trauma that had haunted her from childhood after she was abused by her uncle. With that knowledge, the true meaning of her paintings is clearer. The Christophe Gaillard Gallery in Paris first displayed Gies' work in 2024. Now the Museum Dr. Guislain is exhibiting them for the first time in a museum context.
