Upon arrival, you will be given a brief introduction to the observatory. Afterwards, you can watch a short 3D film about our solar system. In the Maia room, you can learn more about the weather, space travel, and our solar system. Don't forget to try out the 3D consoles! One floor up, in the "Kleine Koepel" (Small Dome), you can learn about a reflecting telescope and celestial bodies. The tour continues to the Weather Garden, where you can check out the various weather instruments. There are telescopes through which you can admire the moon, the sun, the planets, and nebulae. The Weather Station provides more information about the weather and what you can expect in the next few days. The observatory’s crowning glory is on display in the "Grote Koepel" (Large Dome): the historic refracting telescope. Here, you can also learn more about its history.
Are you driving to Ghent? First check whether you may enter the city centre with your vehicle. Clean vehicles may enter the city centre free of charge, polluting vehicles have to pay. Is your vehicle allowed to enter, but do you not have a Belgian or Dutch number plate? You will ALWAYS have to register!
