Saturday 3 october
All day

The reopening will be celebrated with a festive weekend featuring music, performances, workshops, and a design market in the streets surrounding the museum. The celebrations will be followed by Design Fest Gent, running from 3 to 11 October: a ten-day design trail through the city with exhibitions, studios and striking installations. The full programme and all the activities will be announced soon.

The renewed Design Museum Gent offers an open, accessible, and climate-conscious museum experience for visitors of all ages. The new wing not only makes the museum larger, but also more functional — from the museum café and inner garden to spaces for talks, workshops and exhibitions. The entire building, from basement to rooftop, has been designed to welcome everyone and offers unrivalled views over Ghent’s historical centre.

The collection, built up since 1903 and now comprising around 25,000 objects, presents the key works and milestones of Belgian design in an international context — from furniture and everyday objects to innovative bio-based materials. The renewed presentation explores five key themes: imitation, migration, folds, connections, and comfort, highlighting both historical and contemporary designers.
