Ichi is Japanese for number 1. So, it's a great name for the first bao restaurant in Ghent. Bao buns originate in Asia, and small ones are often served as a starter. At Ichi, the bao buns, which are steamed in traditional, wooden baskets, are twice as big. They're made to the original recipe and contain meat/protein, pickled vegetables and sauce. Ichi uses meat from a Ghent family butchers and the sauces are home made.

As a small business, Ichi focuses on take-away/delivery, but you can also eat in. The counter accommodates 12 people, ensuring a personal service.

All dishes are both colourful and tasty, with often surprising yet recognisable ingredients. There's a fixed menu featuring 7 bao buns with the accompanying pickled vegetables, loaded fries with a Japanese touch, rice bowls with super-fresh vegetable and a mini version of a bao. Do you like it spicy? Then try the spice challenge and combine 10 hot sauces with pieces of fried chicken or cauliflower. You can also go for the limited edition bao bun, which changes every 3 to 6 months.
