Sunday shopping in Ghent in magical Christmas atmosphere

Sunday shopping in Ghent in magical Christmas atmosphere

19 dec 2014Gentse Winterfeesten

I almost don’t know where to begin... Gent is alive with Christmas magic and sparkle thanks to the spectacular Winter Festivities, which has definitely put me in the mood for a spot of Christmas shopping!

Go out shopping in group

Speaking of which, I can’t believe how quickly time is going by, in fact every spare moment counts. So, I’m sure, like me you’ll be glad that Gent’s amazing shops and boutiques will be open on Sundays during December and the beginning of January! In my experience the best part about shopping on Sundays is the vibe, which always feels busy but relaxed, and fun.

Over the past couple of days I’ve had a magical time walking around the city, which is stunning especially in the evening under its dazzling street lights. It’s fantastic to see so many people out and about, having fun. I’d definitely recommend going out with a friend or as a group to ensure you get the most out of the experience.

Like a film set

My favourite location is Korenmarkt, which feels like a film set, and smells as wonderful as it looks. Everywhere I turned, there were tempting freshly baked sweet or savoury Christmas treats.

I’m pretty obsessed with buying unique gifts, and I especially loved that there were lots of stalls offering a wide variety of items including a great selection of novelty items that would make impressive stocking fillers.

Ferris wheel

The 'fairground' rides are really cool, although I haven’t quite plucked up the courage to have a go on the ENORMOUS Ferris wheel (yet), and the open air ice rink is unmissable! It’s a pretty sensational jam packed experience. I easily spent hours looking around and wondering where the time went. Yet another thing that makes Gent such a fantastic and special place to live.
