VisitGent aims to make its website accessible to all, including people with a visual impairment. Therefore, we try to comply to the best of our ability with the accessibility standards laid down in the law of 19 July of 2016 transposing European Directive (EU) 2016/2102 on the accessibility of websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies.
Level of accessibility standards compliance
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) include the standards regarding accessibility requirements for people with a visual impairment. These rules apply at three levels: A, AA and AAA.
Our organisation partially complies with level AA of the WCAG 2.2, as some parts of our website do not fully comply (see below).
Inaccessible content
Content outside our own website
- Our cookie module is an external module, which installs a session pixel (CookiebotSessionPixel) without alt tag
- The date picker module is an external module adding empty <th> elements in HTML that are not necessary.
Non-compliance with national legislation
- The contrast between the text on some images is not yet within the correct parameters (min. 4.5:1). We are working on this issue.
- Videos on our website are played using YouTube’s video player, which has accessible buttons, but our videos do not currently include audio description or subtitles. We aim to offer these with all our videos in the future.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This accessibility statement was prepared on 15 February 2024. The assessment of whether this website and the campaign sites meet the requirements of Directive (EU) 2016/2102 was made based on the WCAG AA report of the WAVE app.
