Sometimes it’s only a small from a socialist newspaper to apocalyptic resistance.
Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat 134, Ghent
Few buildings in Ghent are more remarkable than this 1930 gem designed by Fernand Brunfaut. If you just cross the street, you can still see what it was used for until the 1980s: the editorial office and printing establishment of the Vooruit, the precursor of Belgian newspaper De Morgen.
However, the building really came to life in the 1990s, when it was converted into art centre Backstage and the wildest jungle, drum & bass and breakbeat parties took place in the basement. And after a while dubstep came along … which was still good back then!
