Mutation Festival 2026
The festival provides a platform where art, technology, science and social innovation converge. It aims not only to encourage people to look to the future, but also to take an active role in shaping it. Experimentation, knowledge-sharing and co-creation lie at the heart of a programme developed by artists, makers, organisations and researchers. Through the Open Call, artists, makers, scientists, hackers, activists, designers, performers and organisations are invited to propose ideas, installations, workshops, performances or experiments.
This year’s theme, “Why Tech?”, invites reflection on technology's growing influence on our daily lives. Three thematic strands bring this question into focus. (ALGO)RHYTHMS explores algorithms, rhythm, code and digital creativity. REMAKE examines how existing materials, techniques and ideas can be given a new lease of life. The last thematic strand, GRASSROOTS, centres on collaboration, communities and local initiatives that drive social change from the ground up.
Are you driving to Ghent? First check whether you may enter the city centre with your vehicle. Clean vehicles may enter the city centre free of charge, polluting vehicles have to pay. Is your vehicle allowed to enter, but do you not have a Belgian or Dutch number plate? You will ALWAYS have to register!
