In the Coyendanspark, on the other side of St Bavo's Abbey, beech trees in the shape of a church really catch the eye. This is a reminder of the former church of St Bavo's Abbey, which was destroyed by Emperor Charles V in the 16th century. Near the church, there is space to play or hold a block party. The park is on a slight slope. It drains into a marsh zone which collects rainwater and allows it to infiltrate into the soil.
A cycling and walking path runs through the white gate building of the former abattoir.
