Ghent boasts numerous medieval cellars. Maar has such a cellar ever looked better than the Make Up Club?

Ketelvest 51, Ghent

Just like the Culture Club, the Make Up Club was designed by Glenn Sestig. So saying that the club looked grandiose is in fact an understatement. Unfortunately, the 15th-century cellar was not very well insulated and as a result, the hyper-trendy club had to close down in 2010 – only four years after its opening.

Although it was not the first time a club had moved in – previously there had been Chique and Hippopotamus – it was probably the last time. The only aspect of the site which remains sexy today is the manga department of Worlds’ End Comics, the comic shop that has moved in since then.
