JAM Hotels are not a traditional hotel chain, but a creative movement. Each JAM hotel is located in a building with character — from old schools to historic barracks — and breathes new life into these places with art, local craftsmanship and circular design. JAM revolves around authenticity. You can feel it in the materials, see it in the furniture and taste it in the food.
JAM Ghent is housed in the restored Leopoldskazerne barracks, an impressive military complex with monumental vaulted ceilings and weathered charm. It is ideally located: in the middle of the Arts Quarter, next to Citadelpark, the Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art (SMAK) and the Museum of Fine Arts (MSK).
Belgian designer Lionel Jadot was given carte blanche for the interior. He deliberately left the former barracks' history exposed: high ceilings, monumental arches, brick walls, and weathered layers of paint form the backdrop for a distinctly contemporary interior.
Inside, it's like stepping into an art studio. The interior has a distinct, rough-chic look: unfinished walls, warm colours, vintage accents and handmade furniture. Jadot worked with more than 25 Belgian designers and craftspeople to achieve the finished result. Upcycling was also a crucial element: discarded and novel materials are given a new lease of life as furniture and interior features.
Take a closer look. Light fittings by Permafungi, carpets crafted from reused protective tarpaulins and curtains printed with the original building plans: just some of the details that turn the hotel into one big design project.
Each of the (108 rooms) are distinct, and every object has a sustainable story to tell. The ‘Mega’ rooms are a particular stand-out, suitable for groups of up to 6 people.
After a day in the city, you can relax at rooftop bar Neko, a creative hotspot offering views of Ghent, or settle down at restaurant Kaiju. On summer days, the heated outdoor swimming pool on the roof awaits – a rare luxury in the heart of the city.
