The idea behind the Coin Route (Muntenroute) is to visualise the Middle Ages' trade route between Bruges and Cologne, which went through Ghent.

The route with a distance of 1 km is mapped out by thousands of coins built into the road surface. The coins are in thematic clusters and tell a piece of history about the place in which they lie, through drawings engraved in them.

The information continues beneath the illustrations.
