For many centuries, Ghent was the centre of beer brewing. Ghent city brewery Gruut introduces you to Gruut, one of the rare beers brewed with a herbal mix (called “gruut”) instead of the traditionally used hops. This beer is proof that contemporary brewing techniques and age-old traditions can go hand in hand.

A visit to the brewery is possible as from two people and must be reserved. During a guided tour, you will learn all about the brewery’s history and beer culture, as well as trying three beers.

There are five different versions of Gruut

Gruut Blonde: a mellow, light beer with a bitter aftertaste.

Gruut White: a very aromatic beer with a fragrant fruitiness and a herbal aroma.

Gruut Amber: an English pale ale, brewed in the old English way, which has a balanced, peppery dryness and a hint of sour oranges in the aftertaste.

Gruut Brown: a gluten-free beer, the cuvee of the brewery with a pleasant first impression and a persistent aftertaste coming from a mixture of nuts.

Gruut Inferno: an ale with a delicate and intense aroma, a golden colour and unique flavour.
