Still have to buy some Christmas presents? Ghent offers a wide variety of shops, where you are guaranteed to find a gift for all your loved ones, in a cosy atmosphere thanks to the magical street lighting. The only thing left to do is find someone to carry your bags, and off you go!
Ghent is at its most convivial in December. This is mostly thanks to the atmospheric Christmas lighting, but local traders also do their bit by paying extra attention to their shop windows. There are specialised gift shops where you can buy everything from a small present to a timeless treasure.
But be sure to walk into a local gourmet shop, because a Ghent delicacy is also a lovely gift. And a great upgrade for your festive meal, by the way. In Ghent, you can go Christmas shopping every day in December, including Sundays.

Are you driving to Ghent? First check whether you may enter the city centre with your vehicle. Clean vehicles may enter the city centre free of charge, polluting vehicles have to pay. Is your vehicle allowed to enter, but do you not have a Belgian or Dutch number plate? You will ALWAYS have to register!
