In 1979 Marc De Cock became the third chairman of the Association for the Museum of Contemporary art, an organisation that is at the origin of the current S.M.A.K. Together with Karel Geirlandt and Dr. Roger Matthys, he can be regarded as one of the “architects” of the current museum.

For this exhibition, the museum dug into the Matthys-Colle and S.M.A.K. collections and created an imaginary portrait of Marc De Cock with artworks from this collection. The works serve as a visual essay to showcase his personality and commitment.

Includes works by Dirk Braeckman, Berlinde De Bruyckere, Thierry De Cordier, Raoul De Keyser, Joel Fischer, Michel François, Gilbert & George, Ann Veronica Janssens, Mike Kelley, Bernd Lohaus, Attila Richard Lukacs, Bruce Nauman, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Thomas Schütte, Walter Swennen, Luc Tuymans, Richard Tuttle, Jan Van Imschoot, Philip Van Isacker and Franz West.
