For many years, you could buy typical meat specialties from Ghent in this building. Meats were sold here until 2022. Please feel free to ask the managers for more information about the butchers' hall and its immediate surroundings, the former cattle market and abattoir.
You can enjoy a cup of coffee and some cake or a sandwich in the central refrigerator space, which has been converted into a café. The fixed menu is supplemented with suggestions that change regularly. In the freezer compartment, you can discover a working letterpress workshop with unique and historic printing materials. You can also browse through a range of authentic collectibles, vintage furniture and unique plants. Everything is for sale! In 2023, De Dikke Ziel won the Gulden Draak award for the most beautiful Dutch name in Ghent.
