Are you coming to Ghent by car (own or a rental car) and do you want to use the hotel car park (in the pedestrian zone)? Please provide your license plate when making the booking. The hotel will then ensure you can enter the car-free area by car.

Ghent has a low emission zone

The Ghent city centre (the area enclosed by the ring road) has been designated as a low emission zone (LEZ) with the purpose of improving the quality of the air. The majority of the paid car parks are located within the low-emission zone, with the exception of car parks:

  • Gent Zuid (8)
  • Dok Noord (12)
  • Gent-Dampoort (13)
  • Ledeberg (14)
  • Zuiderpoort (15)
  • Gent-Sint-Pieters (16)
  • Het Getouw (17)
  • car park B&C Flanders Expo/ The Loop (18)

Accessibility (Neder)Kouter

Due to major roadworks, access to the Kouter (1), Center (2) and Savaan (3) car parks is restricted. Check the route to and from these car parks on the map below.

Tip: avoid the hassle and opt for a Park & Ride facility on the outskirts of the city.

Prefer to drive into the city centre after all? Consider alternative car parks such as Reep (7), Zuid (8), Ledeberg (14) or Zuiderpoort (15)

Low emission zone: register your vehicle to avoid a fine.

Your vehicle’s Euro standard and fuel type determine whether or not you are allowed to enter the city centre of Ghent. Clean cars can enter the city, polluting cars must pay. If your vehicle is allowed to enter the city centre but you do not have a Belgian or Dutch number plate, you should ALWAYS register it!

Information about the low emission zone can be found here

Parking in the street

Parking in the street is also possible. Rates vary according to the zone. Many streets in the city feature parking spaces reserved for local residents.
