City palaces

Veldstraat’s city palaces were once the glorious homes of the noble families d'Hane Steenhuyse and Vander Haegen. When you enter the colourful drawing rooms with lavish furniture, fascinating wallpaper and grand murals you can see their love for bling immediately.
Hotel d’Hane Steenhuyse has a phenomenal courtyard and has welcomed tsars, princes and kings over the centuries.
The equally spectacular Arnold Vander Haegen House was left to the City of Ghent, on the condition that is was used as a museum. Mission accomplished, and now you can discover the house for yourself.
Golden tip: CityCard holders can join the guided tours of the grand townhouses free of charge. Book your ticket here. The tours will be held in Dutch. Depending on the nationalities in the group, they will also be held in French or English.
