Martino was not just the birthplace of the sandwich of the same name, it was also the starting point for many a wild night from the 1970s to the 1990s.

Although dancing on the tables was not allowed here, Martino did go down in the history of Ghent's nightlife as at least as important as Vooruit, Culture Club or Kompass.
This no-nonsense snack bar, which has also gone down in history as the birthplace of the sandwich of the same name, was the meeting place for club managers, DJs, bouncers, visitors and anyone else who was about to hit the nightlife scene at the end of the 20th century. Especially in the 1980s, Martino was in fact the epicentre of the Kuiperskaai area. It still is the best place in town for a quick bite.
