Walk a mile in my shoes

5,3 km - 7000 steps

Ghent, where to start? One of my favourite places in the city centre is the Kalandeberg: coffee on the terrace of the Fleur de Lee, heaven!  If you're lucky, a street musician will play while you enjoy all the passage around you.

I like to shop in the same neighbourhood, at the COS or Galleria Laurenzo. Can't resist, because I never get out empty-handed. For something sweet on the go, like a smoothie, you can go to Dolce Banana in the Veldstraat. In the Donkersteeg you'll find hands down the best iced coffee in Ghent: at the Mokabon! Thank me later.

Stop at Beiruti for the Lebanese cuisine. Insider tip: enjoy your lunch on the terrace at the back of the building! Another obligatory stop is the Design Museum: the permanent collection is a must see, but there's always an unmissable expo going on. A little more out of the box for those who can't sit still: a pottery workshop at Claymates or a game of bowling at O'Leary's at Dok Noord.

For a top dinner, the choice is always two-star restaurant Vrijmoed, but also “Gekroonde Hoofden”, Fou d'O and the Revue are top spots! Apero o'clock is at the Gomez on the Oude Beestenmarkt. Or even better: rent a boat - you've guessed it - at BOOOT along the Coupure and have your own aperitif on the water. If you're in Ghent for more than a day, you can spend the night in House of Edwards - a new technology hotel where you can do everything digitally (from reservation to check-in & check-out). Still got some time on your hands? Then head for the Gentbrugse Meersen for a walk in the greenery. Perfect detox day!
