Would you like to browse the second-hand books and antique furniture, while also discovering the city? With a special walking route along the Sunday markets, you can do both.

Day off on Sunday? Not in Ghent! On Sunday, everyone gets up extra early so they can head off to one of the weekly markets. Some buy a fresh bouquet of flowers each week, others find books to keep them busy and yet another finds second, third or fourth-hand bargains at the flea market. Browsing slowly is the way to do it and taking a break in between with a coffee on a sunny terrace, an oyster or a glass of Champagne is highly recommended. Since the Sunday markets are at the pinnacle of Ghent's delights, we have included them all in one handy walk. That way, you will immediately feel at home at all of Ghent's markets.

Even more flea markets!

Are the weekly markets not enough for you? Then there are plenty of additional flea markets in Ghent to fill your diary. In the spring, summer and early autumn, you'll certainly find a flea market in some Ghent district or other. When it's really no longer the weather for open-air flea markets, they move inside one of Ghent's large halls. You'll find them all on our flea market page.

Sunday relaxation at the market

Of course, all that browsing makes you thirsty. Take a break on one of the many terraces, or fortify your inner self in a cosy bar. Many restaurants are open on a Sunday, so you can satisfy your hunger at the same time.

Sunday shopping (almost everywhere)

Every first Sunday of the month, you don't need to stick to the flea markets alone. Many shops and boutiques are open for ‘Sunday Shopping’. So extend your walk along the markets with a tour of the shopping streets: find the perfect addition to your vintage treasure, take home a last-minute gift or buy a brand-new vase for those flowers from the market.
