Spring may well be the very best moment to discover Ghent. Explore the city during the mild spring days and see how nature blossoms in the city. On chillier days, dive into a museum or historic house. Feeling peckish or thirsty? Ghent's terraces fill up with the first rays of sun – but the locals will save you a seat. Read our tips for a spring trip in Ghent, with or without kids in tow.

Make the most of every ray of sunshine

In springtime, the city is at its most beautiful. The sweet scents of spring, the first outdoor events and the sun all add a new layer of life to the historical centre. Get lost on purpose in the car-free streets to stumble across the most beautiful spots and hidden parks. Or follow a marked trail to avoid missing a single hotspot. Get the children excited to join in? With the activity trails or a street-art route, they are sure to run ahead!

Can you hear those terraces calling?

There's no such thing as the first terrace of the year in Ghent. Real locals simply put on an extra-thick coat and spend the entire year on a terrace, in a park or at Graslei and Korenlei. Come and join them, enjoy all the goodies the city has to offer and sit back and relax as time ticks by. Be sure to end your visit to Ghent at one of the many chocolate makers for a delicious bag of Easter eggs – after all, it is the Easter holiday!

Sweet spring dreams

Ghent in the spring, that's way too much and way too magnificent for just one day. Fortunately, there is accommodation in all shapes and sizes. Very family-friendly – hello indoor camping – or lovely and luxurious in a hotel? Sleep on a boat, with views of the blossom trees, close to the theatre or in another special b&b? It's hard to choose, but easy to enjoy!
