Walk Local with Mathieu Terryn & Marie Wynants

Walk through the historic centre of Ghent. A lot of attention for the culinary and fashion. In addition to the walk, a lot of suggestions are given that you can discover on your own.
Who doesn't love a real power couple? Enter Mathieu Terryn & Marie Wynants. Him? Frontman of Bazart, the Belgian band of the moment with sold-out shows in the Sportpaleis and Werchter. She? Professional dancer who retrained herself as a (fashion) photographer. A welcome guest at iconic brands such as Delvaux & Café Costume, if she's not on tour with Charlotte De Witte, that is! How do they prefer to live Ghent? Only one way to find out.

Ghent, that's pure nostalgia. And that nostalgic atmosphere can often be found in our favo spots. One of them is m/node/1569, the interior only reminds you of an old film set. A little further on you'll find Mòris, a bar with a sunny terrace at the Korenmarkt (little brother Elton recently opened right at the Sint-Pieters station). Also a must visit: iconic jazz club Hot Club de Gand, hidden in a small alley at the Groentenmarkt. But our favourite pub - if we can call it that - is cocktail bar Jigger's. Here too there is a mysterious atmosphere, straight from the set of a 1950's gangster film. In winter we also like to hang out at The Cobbler's bar.
Top spots for lunch are Pagos (if we don't eat croque Mathieu, we'll have a classic croque monsieur) and Jetje, grandma's kitchen but trendier (we recommend the rice pudding with brown sugar or the sandwich with minced meat!).
What's for dinner? That's Martino, a no-nonsense restaurant at 't Zuid. Fun fact: the father of owner Pascaline invented the popular sandwich 'Martino'. Don't forget Ghent's classic Het Pakhuis and their plateau de fruits de mer and burger bar Uncle Babe's; their onion rings are legendary. Finally, at the John Dory Bar fish restaurant, you'll find 'proof' that you don't have to go to sea for the best shrimp croquettes
